UFC 111 is set to take place in Newark, NJ at the Prudential Center on March 27, 2010. The card is lined up to be a pretty good card and will be the first UFC shown in movie theatres although I’ve already made my thoughts clear about that. GSP vs Hardy and Carwin vs Mir co-headline the event.
Georges St-Pierre vs Dan Hardy
I would like to first start with saying… Dan Hardy? Are you serious? There wasn’t a better match for GSP than Dan Hardy? How the hell did Dan Hardy get a shot at GSP? He comes in and wins 4 fights in the UFC where none of them were against top competition in the weight class and he gets a shot? This is very weak and the UFC could have hooked us up with a better fight than this.
Prediction: GSP by KO Round 2
Shane Carwin vs Frank Mir
This fight started to heat up when Frank Mir opened his mouth regarding Brock Lesnar about wanting him “to be the first one to die from octagon related injuries”. Shane Carwin piped up about this statement saying Brock was stupid for saying it. Mir has had nothing but good things to say about Carwin as a fighter though and that he is tougher than Brock. I don’t know if Carwin could beat Lesnar but I do see Carwin beating Mir.
Carwin has won all of his fights in the first round by TKO or Submission. In the UFC they’ve all been of the knockout variety. Some question whether he should have a shot so early in his career at competition like Mir and Lesnar but when you’re average fight time is under 1:30 you do deserve something. It’s going to be hard to hold back the pace of Carwin in this fight.
