UFC 110 is set to take place February 21, 2010 in Sidney Austrailia but in the US it will air Saturday February 20th. The headline is set to be Nogueira vs Velasquez. Don’t be too disappointed in the main event as the main card is stocked full of interesting fights.
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs. Ben Rothwell
Cro Cop has been struggling with fights in the UFC and his recent loss to Dos Santos isn’t something to write him off as a non contender as Dos Santos has come on to the UFC like a bat out of hell. Cro Cop is up against Ben Rothwell who lost his first fight in the UFC and was beat by Arlovski in the Affliction fight that co-headlined the last Elite XC event. Up against mediocre competition, Rothwell looks like a beast. Unfortunately for Rothwell, Cro Cop is above mediocre.
Prediction: Cro Cop by KO in Round 2
Ryan Bader vs. Keith Jardine
The new vs the old on this fight. Ryan Bader is looking to continue his streak in the UFC and remain unbeaten in his MMA career but he hasn’t quite faced the talent of Keith Jardine. While Jardine is aged he packs a punch and can take one too. How can we forget the slugfests he’s been through in the UFC? His losses are starting to overcome his wins but he gives fans what they want to see. It’s hard to overlook Jardine’s age and recent losing streak so going to have to go with the young Bader.
Prediction: Bader by Unanimous Decision
George Sotiropoulos vs. Joe Stevenson
Sotiropoulos has been on a tear since entering the UFC from Ultimate Fighter 6. He has won all of his fights without going to the judges and most coming by submission. However, he hasn’t faced the level of talent that he will face in UFC 110. Joe “Daddy” Stevenson has lost 3 fights in the past 2 years but all of which have been by some top tier fighters: BJ Penn, Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez. Stevenson is on a 2 fight win streak and don’t expect it to stop here.
Prediction: Joe Stevenson by Decision
Michael Bisping vs. Wanderlei Silva
Bisping’s recent win is overlooked by many when Dan Henderson knocked him the fuck out and I renamed him Michael “Out for the Count” Bisping because he was lifeless after that fight. There is no doubt that he possesses talent though as his only loss is against top fighter Henderson and he certainly has good quality wins under his belt. Wanderlei Silva is no gimme fight though. While many question if Wanderlei is still able to fight with the top dogs, his drop to 185 from his recent fights may prove a smart move. He has lost 5 of his last 6 fights and a loss here he may find himself no longer fighting in the UFC.
Prediction: Bisping by KO Round 3
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez
Big Nog is coming off a win from Couture and looking to regain his title chances with a win over Cain Velasquez. Nogueira is a contender in every fight he faces and can’t be taken lightly. His most recent loss came to Frank Mir as they were the coaches Ultimate Fighter. Cain Velasquez has everything on the line in this fight. Unbeaten in his MMA career with decent wins over Cheick Kongo and Ben Rothwell, he looks to establish himself as a contender for the title. I think Nogueria walks into some power he is not expecting with Cain.
Prediction: Velasquez by KO Round 2
